This photograph has been taken from the gated pocket park located across the road. This area was significantly remodelled during the 2019-2022 redevelopment of Union Terrace Gardens. It is now the site of the Rosemount Pavilion and an enlarged pedestrian entrance to the park.

People are shown entering and exiting the library. The man on the stairs is carrying a painting. He is likely returning an item from the library's "Borrow-a-picture" lending scheme which started in 1976.
A golden coloured, racer-style bicycle has been temporarily left to the left of the library's imposing doorway.
