Title
Bucksburn looking south
Description
A photographic postcard image looking east along Auchmill Road, in the direction of Aberdeen to the south. The turnoff on the left of this image is that of Old Meldrum Road. Note the sign on the large street light indicating that the airport is 2 miles in that direction. This photograph, which likely dates from around the 1950s, shows the then centre of Bucksburn. This location has since changed a great deal with Auchmill Road having been enlarged and now serving as a busy thoroughfare. Most of the buildings shown on the left side of the road, including the branch of the Aberdeen Savings Bank, have been demolished. The building occupied by the Clydesdale & North of Scotland Bank branch remains at the time of writing in 2025 and currently houses Total Endurance Coaching and Aberdeen Sports Therapy. This postcard image also shows a variety of cars, vans, motorcycles and bicycles. Additionally, beyond the Aberdeen Savings Bank, a garage can be seen advertising Regent Petrol.
