Science and Medicine Graduation
A photograph showing Aberdeen University Principal Fyfe conferring the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery upon David Gore Bisset of Aberdeen.

The image is from an article titled 'Science and Medical Graduates' from the Bon-Accord and Northern Pictorial newspaper of 25th December 1941, page 15.

Sir William H. Fyfe (1878-1965) was appointed to the position of Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen in 1936. During WWI, Fyfe served as a Major in the Intelligence Department of the War Office.

During his tenure at the University of Aberdeen he became highly respected among his peers, gaining recognition for his many accomplishments, earning a knighthood in 1942. Fyfe held his senior post at the University until his retirement in 1948, passing away in London in 1965.

This graduation ceremony took place in the Students' Union buildings on the Gallowgate. A section of the building's Pageant of Life murals can be seen in the background.
