Students' Union wall mural
A photograph of principal teacher at Gray's School of Art, Robert Sivell and his student Alberto Morocco, working on a portion of a mural for the theatre of the new Aberdeen University Students' Union buildings.

The image and accompanying caption are from an article titled 'Students' Union "Pageant of Life": Lead to Scots art education' from the Bon-Accord and Northern Pictorial newspaper of 10th November 1938, page 9.

The title of this article makes reference to the name and subject of the mural being painted here by Sivell and Morocco, "The Pageant of Life". Intended to be up to 15 feet high and over 100 feet long, the mural was to be painted by Sivell, Morocco, James Hillocks and Taylor Bremner.

The article explains that the cost of the artworks was to be paid by funds raised by Aberdeen University students and their helpers.

The University's rector, Admiral Edward Evans (1880-1957), was due to visit the city in December to give a lecture, illustrated by film and slides, on his Antarctic experiences with Captain Scott in 1911. The proceeds of the lecture were to go towards the mural fund.
