Description
A postcard image showing the restaurant and tea room at Isaac Benzie's department store premises at 143-167 George Street. This image was used in an advertisement for the eatery that featured in the Press & Journal newspaper of 7th July 1930, page 12. This gives a indication of the date of the photograph. The advert states that the restaurant and tea room was to commence serving lunches that day. It elaborates that "Our well equipped kitchen has now been erected, and enables us to supply lunches of a high standard quality at popular prices. A qualified chef has been engaged, and we propose offering excellently cooked lunches at 1/-, 1/6, 2/6." The advert also states there would be orchestra music in the restaurant daily. The restaurant and tea room had first been installed as part of a major expansion of these George Street premises opened to the public in September 1929.
