A photograph showing the premises and staff of drapers Robert Burr at 20-22 George Street. Robert Burr (1856-1938) started in business in 1882 as Burr and Donald, drapers, at 38 George Street. He moved to the shown premises at 20-22 George Street in 1887 following the retirement of Mr. Donald. Robert Burr ran the drapery here until 1919 when he became manager of the Exchange Warehouse. Burr is seen in this photograph with his staff who are wearing uniforms of dark ankle length dresses. Latterly, Burr lived at 26 Springbank Terrace and was a member of Crown Terrace Baptist Church. The shop windows display items for sale, including a selection of frilled mob caps, ranging in price from 1 shilling (5p) to 22 shillings (one pound and ten pence).
