"Mr. Alexander M. Russell, watchmaker, a well-known citizen of Aberdeen, passed away at his home, 29 Constitution Street, rather suddenly yesterday morning. Mr Russell, who was only 43 years of age, was a native of Aberdeen. As a boy he entered the employment of the late firm of Messrs M. and S. Calder, jewellers, St. Nicholas Street, in whose service he continued for 24 years. Nine years ago he set up in business on his own account as a watchmaker at 43 Green, and conducted the business up till the time of his death. Mr Russell was secretary of the Aberdeen Cycle Club for many years, and acted as official timekeeper at the City Police and Corporation Cleansing Department sports since their inception. He is survived by a widow and family of five sons and five daughters".
