Description
This photograph shows two longstanding establishments on Aberdeen's Bridge Street. At number 6 is The Bridge Bar, a public house that appears to date from the late 19th century. It is a traditional pub with an unusually high ceiling. For a long time it was a men-only bar prior to anti-discrimination legislation introduced in 1975. Though women are now welcome in the pub, it does not have a women's toilet. Next door at 8 Bridge Street is what was considered to be Aberdeen's earliest Chinese restaurant. Yangtze River opened at this location in the 1960s and closed down around late 2017. This photograph was taken on 14th July 2018.
