Title
Treasures from our Collections - November 2015
Description
In July 2017 Aberdeen City Libraries will celebrate 125 years since the Central Library opened to the public. Each month, we are unveiling five treasures from our varied collections - some of which have never before been on public display! November treasures As Book Week Scotland is celebrated in November, one of this month's treasures is a volume from our historic and special collection of Aberdeen Early Printers. We also display a programme describing lectures and exhibitions held in the Central Library Juvenile Department in May 1945. It will give us the opportunity to talk about the first Children's Book Week, organised for the first time by the National Book Council in November 1931. Furthermore, we look at the origin of the annual American holiday of Thankgiving and see the development of the country in Scribner's Statistical Atlas of the United States from c. 1883. 2015 also marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the land surveyor Alexander Ogg and 170 years since founding the stone of Aberdeen Mechanics' Institute was laid.
