4504 A photograph showing the new millinery saloon of Isaac Benzie, Ltd. at 143-167 George Street.
This showroom for hats was introduced as part of a major expansion of the company's department store type premises on George Street. At the time, this type of large shop was usually called a "warehouse".
The business was founded in 1894 and moved to their main premises at 143-167 George Street in 1924.
The redeveloped premises opened on 12th September 1929. Promotion asserted that the millinery saloon was the largest of its kind in Scotland.
This photograph was one of a number of the expanded premises that featured in the Press & Journal newspaper of 12th September 1929, page 3.
See an article on page 9 of that newspaper for an account of the works and their opening ceremony. |
