Victoria Park: Centenary Stone
4427 A photograph of the Centenary Stone in Victoria Park.
To mark the centenary of the park in 1971, 16 Aberdeen councillors each planted a tree in the park and this granite stone was erected to mark the occasion. The councillors planted cherry and Norwegian maple trees.
Some of the most regular users of the park joined the ceremony on 17th November 1971. As did the daughter and three sons of Robert Duncan, who had taken over as the keeper of Victoria and Westburn Parks from Robert Walker in 1919. Children of Robert Walker were prevented from attending by the weather.
There was also a celebratory event for blind people and the rhododendron dell was extended. There were additional plans for an aviary, but these did not come to fruition.
