Historic Photographs Details
Castlehill Barracks replaced the Chapel of St. Ninian and an observatory erected in 1781. The foundation stone was laid on 24th June 1794 by the Marquis of Huntly and it was completed early in 1796, with accommodation for 600 men. It was vacated in 1934 when the Gordon Barracks at the Bridge of Don were opened. It was used for housing in the 1960s and was demolished to make way for high-rise flats.
