125 Treasures from our Collections - August 2016
Our first treasure for the month is the library's collection of programmes of one of the major annual cultural events in the city, the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.

The next treasure continues our summertime focus on Aberdeen's beach with a wonderful lithograph by John Rust and Alexander Gibb & Co. of the Proposed Bathing Station and Promenade.

To celebrate the Edinburgh International Festival taking place throughout the month we also highlight a collection of early 19th century engraving; Select Views of Edinburgh from original paintings by Lieutenant Colonel Batty.

We continue our interest in the built environment of the city with a look at Archibald Simpson's series of plans for the Aberdeen Female Orphan Asylum, 19 Albyn Place, often known as Mrs Elmslie's Institution, which was opened on 19 November 1840.

Next, to celebrate the 31st modern Olympic Games taking place in Rio 2016, we dive into the Official Report of the Fourth Olympiad, which took place in London in 1908.

Our guest treasure this month comes from the NHS Grampian Archives and is Aberdeen Royal Lunatic Asylum Lunacy Forms. These fascinating documents give background information on patients and insight into historic psychiatric treatment.
