Description
Strichen village, originally called Mormond Village, is situated on the banks of the North Ugie (or Blackwater), at the foot of Mormond Hill. The village was founded in 1764 by Lord Strichen to promote "the Arts and Manufactures of this country, and for the accommodation of Tradesmen of all denominations, Manufacturers, and other industrious people". The neighbourhood was well wooded, so much so that its trees were complimented by Dr. Johnson in his <i>Tour through Scotland</i>.
