This image of the Bridge of Don is taken from the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, George Stephen's, Christmas card from 1959.

The bridge was constructed to meet an increased volume of traffic. It incorporates the previous 1830 granite bridge that was built to a design by Thomas Telford. The reconstructed bridge was officially opened on 25th May, 1959, by The Queen Mother.
