Title
St Machar's Cathedral and its organ
Description
A member of the public sent us a copy of this postcard and kindly allowed us to share it on website with the following comment: "The picture shows the 1891 Father Willis organ in its original position in front of the Great East Window with its clear glass. It was relocated to its present position in 1928. In all my organ researching days this is the best view of a very rare photograph. Two interesting points Henry Willis always planned the organ to built in its current site- underneath second arch from East wall but the Kirk overuled him - that's why the organ fits and today looks so well. The great east window with its clear glass was troublesome in sunny mornings during services...after the organ and pulpit were relocated in 1928 a number of experimental blinds were tried until the opportunity to install the install the Stained Glass Three Panels by William Wilson 1953... and the end of the clear glass sun problem!"
