Title
Treasures from our Collections - April 2017
Description
As 2017 is the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, this month we have on display some beautifully illustrated Victorian guides to medieval manuscript illumination, highlighting the Victorians' great love of the past. Our next treasure is an interesting collection of coloured event tickets printed between 1908 and 1911. The tickets offer an insight into both the work of an important Aberdeen business and the existence of long forgotten social clubs. To celebrate World Book Night, which takes place on 23 April every year, one of this month's treasures showcases our fascinating and varied Local Studies Poetry Collection. We are also revisiting the work of the great photographer George Washington Wilson. The photomontage exhibited has been selected from the large collection of portraits he had taken of important men from the city and surrounding area. Our final treasure is a tribute to Marcus Kelly Milne, City Librarian from 1938 to 1968, and well known outside the library as "Mr Aberdeen" due to his omnipresence in civic life. The material on display reflects his influence in the city.
