Title
Triple Kirks/The Point Development 2010-2019
Description
This series of 45 images from local photographer Roddy Millar documents the progression of The Point development at the Triple Kirks site on Aberdeen's Schoolhill from 25/12/2010 to 29/05/2019. In late 2013 residential and commercial property development company Dandara began redevelopment of the site. It was initially planned to be new office space but was changed to accommodation following shifts in the property market. It was initially a requirement that this accommodation be for students. This building condition was on application overturned by Aberdeen City Council in December 2018. The complex was subsequently geared towards a general audience. Gavin Wyley, managing director of Dandara in Scotland, said: "This is an important decision for Aberdeen, which ensures that we can provide much-needed, high-quality build-to-rent residential accommodation for people who want to live in the city centre at this landmark development." (<i>Press and Journal</I>, 08/01/2019) Dandara's website states: "[The] development comprises 342 Build-to-Rent apartment within 5 minutes' of Aberdeen city centre and features a mix of 50% studio apartments and 50% en-suite rooms with a shared kitchen-living room. Additional facilities include: Amazon delivery, gym, cinema room, break-out area, library, 2 large kitchens (available for rental), and a coffee shop. Superfast broadband and all utility bills are also included." (accessed 16/03/2020). <strong>Many thanks to Roddy Millar for sharing these photographs with Aberdeen Local Studies and to our volunteer, Caterina Nespolo, for her work creating this exhibition.</strong>
