Title
ABERDEEN'S RELATIONS WITH POLAND
Description
In May 2018, Aberdeen Grammar School pupil Amelia Morawiak began volunteering with Aberdeen Local Studies. During her time with the library service Amelia created the following online exhibition on the historic connections between Aberdeen and Poland and their relevance to current times. She first researched the content of the article using the local studies collection and various other resources. She then wrote and compiled the text on the subject and located images to illustrate its topics, again from our collections and diverse other sources. She then uploaded the combined material and created this Silver City Vault exhibition. The Local Studies team have enjoyed having Amelia work with us here at the library. This volunteering project involved the development and use of a wide range of skills related to local studies and library work including researching historical topics, the digitisation and editing of images and the development of our website. We very much hope you enjoy the exhibition. If you know of any further interesting connections between the Granite City and Poland, we would be happy to hear from you. Please either use the comment button or email localstudies@aberdeencity.gov.uk. The image on the left is an illustration of John Cheere's 1753 statue of Robert Gordon, located in the niche above the College's door, and was taken from The History of Robert Gordon's Hospital Aberdeen 1729 - 1881 (1896) by Robert Anderson.
