Title
125 Treasures from our Collections - September 2016
Description
To begin this month's treasures we look at the visually interesting and historically informative world of bazaar books with Crathie Churches and Royal Bazaar at Balmoral by William W Philip (1894). To celebrate the Scottish Children's Book Awards for our next treasure we showcase the imaginative children's works of Huntly born author born George McDonald. The 26th September is the European Day of Languages and inspired by this we are exhibiting a 1895 edition of Jamieson's Dictionary of the Scottish Language. As part of a civic art project called Cat Parade, the month of September sees an exhibit of replica Kelly's Cat statues take up residence in the Union Bridge windows of the Waterstones bookshop. One of the replicas to be exhibited was decorated by a team from the Central Library. Our next treasure for the month is one of the original Kelly's Cat statues that was gifted to Aberdeen City Libraries. Our final treasure of the month is the programme of the Official Opening Ceremony of Kincorth Youth and Community Centre in 1968. This complex also contains Kincorth Library and we consider its history and role in the community. Find out more about all of these items in the Treasures from our Collections interactive exhibition on the touchscreens in the Central Library, Airyhall, Mastrick and Tillydrone Libraries. If you have any questions or comments about the exhibition please use the comment button or get in touch at localstudies@aberdeencity.gov.uk.
