Historic Photographs Details
A photographic portrait, believed to be by George Washington Wilson, of Alexander Macdonald (1794-1860) the granite manufacturer and pioneer of Aberdeen's monumental industry.

An entry for Macdonald, written by Tom Donnelly, can be found in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

Macdonald and his work are also the subject of the fifth chapter in the book The Granite Men: A History of the Granite Industries of Aberdeen and North East Scotland (2019) by Jim Fiddes.

Macdonald was the father of Alexander Macdonald (1837-1884), who continued his father's business and was a prominent local art collector.
