A drawing of artist James Giles (4th January 1801 - 6th October 1870) by J. Beattie-Scott. Giles was born at Printfield (now Woodside), son of Peter Giles and Jean Hector. At nineteen he was teaching drawing classes in Aberdeen. He became successful as a painter of portraits, castles and highland scenery. In 1829 Giles became an academician of the Royal Scottish Academy. He died at his residence, 62 Bon-Accord Street, Aberdeen.
